Jack White to Reissue Elvis Presley's First Acetate

White will release a reissue of the acetate, which features covers of 'My Happiness' and 'That's When Your Heartaches Begin', for Record Store Day on April 18 via his Nashville-based label, Third Man Records. The Record Store Day version will be a limited facsimile 10-inch 78 rpm disc, while later this year, Third Man will release a widely available 7-inch 45 rpm featuring newly restored versions of the two songs.
'Working from a transfer done by industry expert Alan Stoker at the Country Music Hall of Fame, the audio will be as clean as modern technology can make it without losing the feeling and soul that makes these two songs both haunting and breath-taking', the Third Man website said. 'The utmost attention to detail has been paid in order to create an object so close to the historic original as to almost be indistinguishable from one other.'
The acetate was recorded by Elvis in 1953. He recorded the two songs - his first recordings ever - at Sam Phillips' Memphis Recording Service. The acetate was expected to fetch $100,000 at the auction, but was purchased by White for $300,000.
Grammy Award winner Jack White is founder of rock bands such as The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather, and he's released two successful solo albums, most recently 'Lazaretto', in 2014. White's Third Man Records is known for creating innovative vinyl albums. The label has released a Glow In The Dark Record, a Triple-Decker Record (a 7-inch within a 12-inch), a Texas-Sized Record, a Liquid-Filled Record, a Scented Record and a Rose Petal-Filled Record.

The 'parade' footage is good to see as it puts you in the right context with color and b&w footage. The interviews of Elvis' Parents are well worth hearing too. The afternoon show footage is wonderful and electrifying : Here is Elvis in his prime rocking and rolling in front of 11.000 people. Highly recommended.
